After visiting my storage unit and discovering a few smashed items, I realized that there had to be a better way to put things into the space. When I had originally started loading up the boxes, I was more concerned about fitting everything into the unit than I was about protecting my goods. Unfortunately, my mistake had caused a lot of damage. Some of the items on the bottom was crushed, and I found myself tossing old belongings left and right. A house that has a lot of stuff in it can be uncomfortable to live in. There are several things that can be done to make the decluttering process a success, and you don't have to toss everything out. 1. Have a Large Yard Sale

If you have a large amount of items that you don't need but can still be used, consider having a yard sale. You never know how much money you can make in a single day from the items. By having a yard sale, you will feel better about getting rid of your belongings because they will still be used by someone else. If you want to make sure all or most of the items are sold during the yard sale, it is important for a lot of people to stop by. You can bring attention to the yard sale by hanging signs around your town and neighborhood.

2. Contact Local Charities

If you don't have the time for hosting a yard sale, you should consider giving the items that you don't need to a charity. Although you won't make any money from giving the items away, it can still beneficial. For instance, it is possible that your donation can get you a credit when your income taxes are filed, which is useful if you owe the government money. Donating to charities is also a good feeling because you will know that your items will be used for helping other people. Keep in mind that some of the charities might be able to come to your house to pick the items up on your behalf.

3. Get a Storage Unit

If you hold a sentimental attachment to a lot of the items that are cluttering up your house, it can be difficult letting go of them. You can actually declutter your house and keep all of your belongings if you desire to do so. All you will need is a storage unit that is large enough for everything. You can leave your belongings in the unit for as long as you want as long as the rental fee is paid each month. If you decide to rent a storage unit, get one that is climate controlled so your belongings will be protected from extreme temperature changes.
